Sundays Adventure

from csnstores.com  they are a compilation of over 200 stores

The heat in South Texas combined with the humitidy is enough to .... well,  I will let you fill in the blank.
Anyway, regardless of the heat I wasnt  going to pass up the opportunity for my son to take his first glider flight ( or any flight)  yesterday.  The boy has never been up in a plane, period, or out of Texas.  I think I can safely say he has never been north of Dallas, or west of Luling.  Here are a few shots of the experience that he took... bless his heart, his knees were up around his chest. After it  was over all he could do was grin from ear to ear.  He is fourteen and had to keep up appearances but he did describe it as "stupid sick".

Getting ready to fly

Tow line connected and waiting for take off as another glider comes in overhead for a landing - remember the size of that line. This facility has a nice covered patio where you can watch out of the direct heat of the sun. So most of the parents are waiting there.

We have liftoff!  I had liftoff also about this point, but it was liftoff of my stomach.  It was a mix of excitement when I saw my son in the front seat of the glider, followed by that mild nausea when you see the size of the rope that is holding my son in the air.   That passes quickly, and he was in excellent hands.

Up in the air

Gaining altitude

Still Climbing

Brandon at the controls

Look Mom! No tow plane

the view out the vent window.  I am standing just outside of the building right there watching the approach.

Turning  and getting ready to land

He took an awesome video.  Since the instructors takeoff and land he was able to document both. I will see if I can post it separately since it isnt loading.

Brandon was able to do this due to being a member of the Civil Air Patrol Cadets.  If you have a kid interested in avaiation,  I was just told by one of the other parents about the Young Eagles,  On their website, their objective is listed as follows "Our mission is to provide a meaningful flight experience – free of charge – in a general aviation aircraft for young people primarily between the ages of 8 and 17."  I hope to look into that very soon.

the transformation begins...

been up for awhile. the son gets the 4 in metal plate and 6 screws removed from his arm today.  *sigh* he will be just mere mortal again.  I have threatened him within an inch of his life if he doesn't e.x.a.c.t.l.y. follow the Dr's orders - no push /pull for 3 months.

Umm, he's 14.  "All boy."

you sure you won't put this kid in a brace? cast, anything for the first 6 weeks?  *tap, tap * Hello, this thing on?  This Dr clearly doesn't have a teenager.  especially one that thinks metal in the arm = cool in a crazy wolverine sort of way.

I am glad they didn't  remake the 6 million dollar man yet.  By the way, I saw his ad recently for a hearing aid.  That was just all wrong.

I definitely cant let him watch Edward Scissorhands... i wouldn't be able to find anything in my house to cut a coupon  or a stray thread to save my life.

boys.

it's what they do.

Too many May's!

Okay, so things are a little busy. Updating my blog has been one of the last things on my mind.
Just returned from the Dr with my 14 year old, and he may or may not be having surgery next Wednesday to remove the 4 inch place and the 6 screws from his arm that he broke in August.  ( Keep in mind he broke that wrist in May before that and the other arm my daughters prom weekend the April before that. That weekend I learned my mom radar is good, but may or may not be honed on the right kid...)

So he may or may not have to take his finals early.  I am fairly sure the Jr high is rejoicing this is his last year.

He may or may not have to reschedule surgery from 6/2 to 6/7.

This is depending on whether or not we can have the preliminary test done before surgery.  He has taken to passing out after his drill and PT( physical training)  When you are 6'3 and stand up in your 11x10 bedroom, and pass out, you are going to hit something.  Bed, walls, furniture, door frames... so this weekend or sooner I will be removing the captain's bed for his own safety.

So, due to his lack of enthusiasm for curricular activities there may or may not be summer school... to which he cannot attend with a freshly Swiss cheesed arm.

*sigh*

edited to add:  things are working out, I wrote this last week and saved it  instead  of posting. heart tests this week as ordered by pediatrician.  Then surgery,  next week.  then, there may or may not be summer school the next week.

Balmex.... powder and other emergencies

you have to check this out
http://www.theprovidentwoman.com/?p=1958. I am loving the knife giveway she is sponsoring, but what I truly relate too is http://www.theprovidentwoman.com/?p=2034
Yep. been there. A two year old that painted every part of his body with Balmex when he was supposed to be napping. Leaving only eye holes and the flesh under his diaper that was flesh toned. He is thirteen now about to be fourteen - and for the life of me I cant remember how many baths it took to get it off of him....

Do I have to????

I love this picture, this just sums it up. Our dog Cocoa wouldn't have anything to do with ,my daughter's new puppy , Bella. Three months later, he even plays a little with her. However as cute as she looked, she kept stealing his Christmas bone.... you better watch it Bella.

Mother May I ....?

Remember that game? Someone should have told us to play it with our kids....

"Mother, may I grow two inches taller than you? Me: "No, you may not." It might have worked...

or..."Mother, May I grow into such a beautiful, young woman that it is scary and will cause you much worry? Me: "No, you may not." The one on the right? Darth Vader? Don't even get me started. Genetically, he isn't mine...but emotionally, he has been blended with my heart...

Having a "smoothie" family makes it interesting ( read... difficult) and tough at times. I think the term smoothie sums it up wonderfully... Take several different personalities & their idiosyncronies, complete with past experiences ("up-sized") & also expectations( jumbo size). Stir & enjoy! It may look a little rough during the blending, but it turns out great in the end - so I'm told. I'm still stiring...but my arm's tired.

*SIGH* Yes you may.....
If you are reading this as the parent of one the potty training bunch, you are probably remembering how you held your breath as they took their first steps.... and exhaled after they made their wobbley way to their destination. Well - all I can say is grab a paper lunch sack momma's .. they come in handy. Breathe slowly, in and out, that's it.

Good Gracious she's Googling Again!

You know.... they just roll their eyes at me.....

I ummm you know am not quite 40, but am really close....like two steps from the edge of the cliff close.
You know, the age where if you asked your parent what a word was, the inevitable response was... "Go look it up in the dictionary." and if you were lucky you had a set of encyclopedias to check as well... or the alternative was a trip to either the school library or the local public branch.
Hey, I try to keep up with the times, slightly... so being such a "trendy momma" when they ask me that I say "Google it". I get more heat for this...

I can't even finish my sentence...they start waving their arms and being comedians..

"We know google it!" Oh Yeah.... the're REALfunny. I remember thinking how cool it would be when they got finally got past knock knock jokes in 1st grade and the hilarity that would ensue.... Ummm - hummm.... makes ya long for a knock knock joke. Just you wait... I am going to get one of those new fangled recording de-vices so you can see what I have to deal with..

I'll post it here.

Silly kids. You know you think they would know better then to mess with a momma who wore "toughskins". Yep. You know the ones- the greens ones ya just "hadta" have. The lesser of the evils of that round Sears rack you were forced to spend perusing on a sweaty Saturday afternoon at Sears.
So what do you catch heat from your brood for?

That's IT!

Ok..... this is sooo not fair. I'm an ok height.... now width? Umm let's save that for later. 5'8 - decent.

Didn't ever think I would feel short.....

till my baby walked up between the neighbor & I while we were chattin'. She looks right at him, and said " Well, now your taller then me! And I'm 5'8." I do a double take.....Yep, here he grows again!

How, can I give him "the eyebrow"? I just don't think it is gonna be as effective when he is looking down at me... Good Gracious.... we havent even made it to 8th grade yet...

Maybe I can try stilts...So not gonna work - I think that one defies the laws of physics... or Tom Cruise style wedges..nah. I'd turn an ankle.

Help.

Housework for Home Work

Doing housework.... and more housework....the list is long. and; I have to get it done in spite of this incredible headache....

Forget the superbowl.... I don't think I could handle the volume today....no, thanks. The excedrin isn't doing more then taking the edge off it... it... the headache.... but me? still edgy...

I have to get this done as I have more work starting this week at home.... as I sit here I am remembering I am lucky to be able to do Customer Service work at home in the afternoon and evenings.... in my jammies if I so wish :D I smile while mentally picturing gestures from the kids as they try to silently communicate while I am taking calls.. should be an interesting week! Back to the list!

Funny......

The 12 yr old is something else.....

His sister and I were standing by him, and were talking about how she wished she had my parents room in our house instead of her room. I said sure, it had a half bath and a nice walk in closet..... instead of the wall closets they both have.

B.W. is walking by and says - " I have a walk in closet.... I can walk in, I just can't walk out of it!

Isn't that the truth Momma's?
